Next 12th and 13th of July, the Academy of "Écrivains de Marine" will have the honour of putting on an exceptional showcase of sea literature on ocean history in Bayonne. 14 reputable writers will come to the town centre to host debates and conferences based on themes related to the sea including its history, workers, trade, environmental issues, as well as the political and social issues such as immigration, refugees and trade links.
These events will be accompanied by round table discussions, readings, book seller stands and signed works of Navy writers. The schooner "La Belle Poule" will make a stopover on quai Edmond Foy where guided tours will be available to visitors.
This event, put together in close cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, port management and the Adour naval base aims to promote the port to locals and visitors how port activities have changed in relation to history and that they have become very modern. 
This event is also an opportunity for the town, within the "town of art and history" framework, to develop a set of sea themes and to re-register the port as part of the city's bedrock. Like articulating a cultural programme and legacy in parallel to the themes of the literature event such as the port and the sea.
Thanks to the participation of the town's bookshops, Basque and history of Bayonne museum, Bonnat museum, multimedia library, Atlante cinema, and again the tourist office, the exhibitors (demonstrators, writers, readers, tour guides) who will be organising the event throughout June, giving a glance to Bayonne's port and maritime inheritance which is often ignored although its interesting and complexed.
Maritime writers which will be present at the event this coming 12th and 13th of June in Bayonne include: Didier Decoin, Isabelle Autissier, Jean-Michel Barrault, Amiral Bellec, Michel Déon, Loïck Finaz, Olivier Frebourg, Bernard Giraudeau, Hervé Hamon, Patrick Poivre d’Arvor, Yann Queffélec and Pierre Schoendoerffer.

Located at the bottom of a gallo-roman tower, smack in the historical middle of the town, in one of the smallest streets in Bayonne. Being actually the lung of this beautiful area in the left bank, at the beggining it could not expect to a national or regional recognition and gratitude, but now it does.
The plan is to assert itself as a place of artistic production nationally recognized, in one or another field of contemporary art. More than a hundred of shows including theatre, music and dance and twenty two records which have come into existence with the National Scene Bayonne contest, since its creation in 1990! Seven shows were received in 2010, co-produced by the national Scene, some of them created at the Bayonne theatre: Diaspora bidalan by the Theatre du Versant, the "journal à quatre mains" by the Argula Theatre, High Dolls by the Pagaï Opera, Le Ciel est pour tous by the Theatre de l'Est Parisien...
Diffusion, subscriptions, ticket prices: to organize and and compare artistic forms giving priority to contemporary creation. Artistic dissemination is the most important part of the work of the national Scene. In order to realise it, a lot of work has to be called up. The season composition tries an equilibrium between the desire of the audience, the will to suggest new artists,and the worrying about giving priority to contemporary creation, less known in the region. That is why the subscription composition invites spectators to discovery. The shows are divided in three categories (A, B, C). It is up to the subscriber to choose an equal number of shows in each category. Six options of subscription are proposed, from three spectacles to twelve, allowing a high reduction of ticket prices, comparing it with full fare.
The season card or "young season", necessarily taken out with subscriptions, can also be taken out without subscription. It allows the non-suscriber to have a significant discount.
